Re: Who do you miss the most?

    Ahhh. Waxing sentimental.
I just remember the time, school, the people in my life, and most of all the music.
I was always excited about hearing my favorite groups along with new music in the day.
I was very much into synthpop and loved bands like: Depeche Mode,New Order/Joy Division,Erasure,PetShop Boys,Kraftwerk. I also loved the Cure,Bauhaus, Love and Rockets,Bolshoi,Sinead,Front 242,Caberet Voltiare,Alaphaville,Viscious Pink,KTP,Human League,The Cult and the list could pretty much go on forever.

I also miss radio being unformatted in that you could hear punk, rap, rock, metal and much more on one station back in the 80s as long as it was popular at the time ,no way radio is like that anymore( I dont listen to the radio anymore).

Most of the band I loved still exsist and are doing extremely well today DM included.Yes,its not the same thing but I still love their new material as much as the old. Their 80s material brings back so many memories I just cant deny it.

I agree with you all too well. Except for REM

I miss Erasure and Depeche Mode alot though...
But both of these bands still exisit, have devoted following and still tour the world on a regualr basis. They havent gone away.
We dont hear them much when speaking of radioplay but these two bands are still doing remarkably well and sell out when touring.

Bands that I miss are bands like Comsat Angels and The Sound and sadly due to Adrian Borlands suicide in '99 The Sound will never be together again...

    WINTER
I'd like to sleep one hundred days
My feeling has gone, flesh cold and numb
    I'm staring into winter

All's slowing down, snow in the wheels
Frost on the ground, ice cuts the seal
    That opens up old wounds
    That lets in the winter

Memories and hopes are all that I have
But are they all i need, will they see me
    Through this winter?

I'd like to sleep one hundred days
My reason has gone, flesh cold and numb
At least let me sleep through the winter...

...he found his Winter and also his peace...

Have to agree with Tintor about The Sound - one of the most overlooked bands of the 80s - their album "from the lion's mouth" was one of the best of the 80's.

I miss the ORIGINAL Berlin. Terri Nunn and a new Berlin released an album a while ago entitled "Voyeur." It's just crap. Sounds like all the new techno stuff.

i miss the excitement of discovering music that was meant for me. no matter how many new bands i stumble upon today that fit my musical tastes, nothing comes close the feelings i had upon listening to the smiths and the cure for the first time.

I miss Kajagoogoo, Visage, Adam Ant, Billy Idol, even Shakin' Stevens and a lot of the one-hit wonders like Jona Lewie and all the songs that came out between 1980-1984.

Dear Jona Lewie had two hits!
Both delivered in his great style:
    'In the kitchen at parties'
and the Xmas hit 'Stop the cavalry'.

    As xistenza says, discovering groups:
    Kraftwerk
    Echo & The Bunnymen
    Joy Division
    Visage
    Yello
    Cabaret Voltaire
    Propaganda
    Front 242
    Chakk
    Art Of Noise
    Age Of Chance
    and loads more.
Not like the crap like Coldplay, Keane & Travis.
(ha! been pulled by Coldplay and Keane fans for saying that before, but NO Travis! And they're the least offensive of the lot!)

I really miss Propaganda. Apart from their awesome 80's work.. I really enjoyed their '1234' album in 1990. Heaven Give Me Words was a cool tune

Re: Who do you miss the most?

Ultravox are definately missed by me, I can't believe that they carried on after Midge left, it was his amazing vocals that transformed the group from zero's to hero's when John Foxx left. So it was no suprise to see them revert back to being nothing again, though the biggest suprise (and insult) had to be when they reformed and toured with John Foxx on vocals again.

Others that I miss because of their original sound include:
O.M.D. though there have been some decent remixes done.
    Human League
Fine Young Cannibals (gotta love Roland Gifts vocals)
    Madness
Heaven 17 (should have quit long before they did)
    ABC (same again)
    Fad Gadget (R.I.P. Frank Tovey)
Hazel O'Connor (although she's back now her work prior to her breakdown was quality)
    Tears for Fears
    Yazoo (Yaz in the States)

    To name just a few

    Wow,

It really was a great time for music. I'm not sure there will be a decade like it again. Synthesisers and midi was the great revolution and brought cheap as in price point, but wonderful sounds to a great many muso's.

I miss Thompsons twins, psuedo echo, real life, duran, nik kershaw, glass tiger
cutting crew... oh so many more.

Agreed about Heaven 17 and ABC Eric, great bands that I really miss. I also miss the fact that Prefab Sprout, China Crisis, Echo and The Bunnymen and The Smiths are no longer recording either.

Yes they are my friend!!! I've got their last album from 2001 'Flowers', and very good it is. McCulloch has released a solo album (mediocre) after that.
Taken from the bunnymen official site:
    December 21, 2004
    New Bunnymen Album
Hugh Jones will be the producer on the next "Echo And The Bunnymen" album.

Hugh has worked with the band before, he engineered "Crocodiles" and produced "Heaven Up Here".

Work on it will begin at the end of January 2005.
    QUALITY!!!!!

Re: Who do you miss the most?

That really is interesting news there Gazza67 I didn't even know they recorded in 2001, though my priority has been with dance music since '95 so I've missed a few bands getting back together.

Though with the help of you lot my fellow music lovers (and what fooking good taste you all have) I'm catching up a bit.

I miss Prefab Sprout too. I loved all their work, but I found their 1997 album 'Andromeda Heights' to be their best album. I just loved that song 'A Prisoner of the Past'

I'm going to have to refresh my musical memory with a Prefab Sprout listening session very soon.

I have also just been looking at a website dedicated to one of my other favourites from the late 70's to early 80's, the angry young men from Woking 'The Jam'. Now there's a group I seriously regret not getting a chance to see live before they split up.

Aha! Not only did they record in '01, but before that they released 'What Are You Going To Do With Your Life?' in '99 & 'Evergreen' in '97
