Re: Obscure, forgotten or underrated punk bands

    Naked Raygun
    DRI (First album through Crossover)
    7 Seconds
    Youth Brigade
    Subhumans
    Circle Jerks
    Bad Brains
    The Descendants
    The Vandals

Among others for sure. The above bands I listed never really gained much notoriety aside from Circle Jerks and Bad Brains but the music was solid for the most part. DRI lost it completely after Crossover as did GBH and Agent Orange. Agent Orange went completely lame in their later careers but were awesome for a while there.

Man, this is like the punk playlist of my junior year of high school! Add to that the Misfits, Agent Orange, All, the Germs, the Exploited, Fang, and Fear, and that pretty much sums it up. Oh! and X-ray Spex!! (Although technically a '70s punk band)

Anyone here ever heard of a band called, 9353? They were local here in D.C., but I know they made their way to CA during the late 80's. Great band

The best underground punk band of the early eighties was the Oziehares, out of L.A. Unfortunately, they never were interested in going into the studio, but their gigs were the most full-on, energized, amazing things... singer: Mark Alva drummer: Emil (later of Black Flag)

Red Scare was another really good band; they're on one of the Rodney on the Roq collections, and a cd was released a couple of years ago called As Promised. They also put out a self-titled album, but it's pretty hard to find.

I like most of the above mentioned, good to see people bring up Agent Orange, GBH, Fear, Plasmatics, Angry Samoans, Mission of Burma and one of my all-time favorites, Naked Raygun (from here in Chicago!). I also thought the Effigies and Big Black were very underrated. And T.S.O.L., and the Rezillos.

    aaah, Red Scare

I only got a 7", but this really kicks ass...
    n/p : Red Scare - Redrum

I'm not so deep into Punk, more Postpunk, but here are some more "punky" names that are always worth a try :

    UK Decay
    Poison Girls
    Product
Easy Cure (Big Rob Smith before he went more wavy)
The Pack (Kirk Brandon before Theatre Of Hate)
    Hagar The Womb
    Crisis (pre-Death in June)
    Pneumania
    Action Pact

all not really hard punk and more goth/postpunk, but check them out

If anyone wants a good laugh, listen to "Killer Klowns From Outer Space" (which is the song for the 80s movie) by the Dickies. I'm pretty sure they were a southern Cali band, though I haven't heard anything else from them.
