The Bob Welch song..was that on the French Kiss album? If so, I might have it.

I'll look through my auction items.(I have tons of albums) .I have several albums of those you have mentioned. If I find something you need..I'll pm you.

May I ask what Triumph's "Tunnel Power" is? Any relation to "Magic Power"?

The title is kind of strange, like something you'd call a remix of "Magic Power" for Fraggle Rock or something. Was it a non-album single or maybe a special radio-only thing? Just wondering.

I am shocked to see Will and The Kill on this list! I used to go see them all the time here in Austin when I was a teenager (they are from here). In fact, I have the album on vinyl. Sorry daffy, I won't part with it. I do find copies of the album on vinyl, cassette, and harder-to-find CD every once in awhile around town. If I see it, I will buy it and send it to you.

Stacy, if I send you a cassette, will you dub it for me??

As for Triumph's song. The album rock book I have says the song was only available on the cassette version of "Never surrender" and went to #43 on the album rock charts in 1983

As for Bob Welch, that song was on the album simply titled "Bob Welch"

I would daffy, but I have one problem at the moment. My stereo of 13 years finally died a few months back. I am looking to buying a new turntable, etc., but I don't know exactly when I will be getting one.

Daffy, Squeeze's song "Hits of the Year" is on their album, Cossi Fan Tutti Frutti. I have it on audio cassette, but not CD.

Daffy, I have an mp3 of Squeeze's "Hits of the Year". I think I have the live version of the Alarm's "Rescue Me", too, but I'd have to double check on that.

I thought you said you had the Hawks LP that you found still sealed in an old record store?

Close. I found the 45 for "Right away" unused.

    ****STATUS REPORT***

    Hi Dj Daffy,

Long time, no hear. How have you been doing? I have been working on the exact same project that you are working on. Also there's a guy named ChuckyG that is also working on this same project.

I have done a number of MP3 trades with the good folks at www.mp3th.net that bagged a number of the tunes on your want list. I've got a bunch more coming on CD. The rest I'll have to buy on vinyl. Do you know somebody that does a quality job converting vinyl to MP3? I don't have the turntable but if push comes to shove I'm sure it could be done somehow.

    Here is my ****STATUS REPORT***

Needed to complete album rock tracks:

allman brothers band - statesboro blues (MP3 trade coming from Wildjim of mp3th.net)

big big sun - stop the world (vinyl-only not hard to find)

broadcasters - down in the trenches (buying factory-made CD from secondspin.com)

chequered past - how much is too much (buying factory-made CD from cdquest.com)

Tom Cochrane & Red Rider - Calling America (buying factory made CD at Ebay auction)

David Crosby - Drive My Car (buying factory made CD from compactdiskdepot.com)

cysterz - drag you down (exteme rarity, maybe impossible to find)

roger daltrey - martyrs and madmen (it appears to have been on a vinyl-only compilation from 1982. I could buy the record easily but can't rip vinyl - don't have the turntable)

Dire Straits - Twisting By The Pool (original 1983 version) (MP3 trade coming from Wildjim)

ian gillian & roger glover Telephone Box (MP3 trade in-progress for this one)

ian gomm - here it comes again (vinyl only, not hard to find)

hawks - it's alright, it's O.K. (vinyl only, not hard to find)

rocky hill - I won't be your fool (buying factory made CD from musicrecyclery.com)

hyts - backstabber (scarce, vinyl-only can probably get it)

kind - I've got you (scarce, vinyl-only can probably get it)

eddie money - i'm movin' on (can probably get this on CD, is extremely rare and expensive, vinyl is less expensive)

eddie schwartz - no refuge (vinyl only - can get easily)

silver condor - For the Sake of Survival (vinyl only, can get easily)

    B. E. Taylor Group - never hold back (should be able to get vinyl)

Tonio K - Without Love (bought factory-made CD from totalrecall.de)

triumph - tunnel power (this song only appeared on the original cassette version of the "Never Surrender" album. It should not be too hard to find, but must make sure cassette has the song before buying)

tsunami - runaround (vinyl easy to find)

bob welch - It's what they don't say (MP3 trade in-progress for this one)

will & The Kill - heart of Steel (CD ordered from musicrecyclery.com)

Needed to complete modern rock track list:

winter hours - smoke rings (bought CD at ebay auction)

I have an MP3 for every song to chart in the Modern Rock charts and Album rock charts of the 1980s except for those on this list.

Most of the purchase orders are recent and I haven't begun receiving the CDs yet.

    Sincerely,
    Phil D.

    Hi Everybody,

Just to let you know, I got a message from Record Reasearch (Mr. Whitburn's company) that the songs "Drag You Down" by the Cysterz and "Tunnel Power" by Triumph DO NOT EXIST and were deleted from the 2002 edition of the book. Here is the contents of that E-mail:

    From: "Customer Service Dept." <books@recordresearch.com>
    Reply-To: "Customer Service Dept." <books@recordresearch.com>
Subject: Re: Possible Corrections to Album Rock and Modern Rock books
    Date: Wed, 7 May 2003 12:03:25 -0700

    Phil -

We would like you to know that we do have a new and improved edition
available, "Rock Tracks 1981-2002", where many corrections have been made.

The song "Drag You Down" by Crysterz does not exist. This is one of our
plants we put in the book to prevent people from copying our publications,
and everything about the song is made up. We apologize if you have been
searching hard and long for this title.

We have found that "Tunnel Power" by Triumph really does not exist on a
cassette. Billboard should've never shown this. The song is not listed in
    our new edition.

We hope we have answered all your questions, and appreciate the added
corrections you sent us. Thank you!

    Kay

Interesting that they would put bogus info in the book, I'm a little disappointed by that.

How's it comin' along Phil? Let me know I would like a complete set sometime

    Hi,

It is sure looking alot better than it did 2 days ago when I thought that there'd be 2 impossible to find songs on the want list forever. Here is the current want list

big big sun - stop the world
broadcasters - down in the trenches
chequered past - how much is too much
Tom Cochrane & Red Rider - Calling America
David Crosby - Drive My Car
roger daltrey - martyrs and madmen
ian gomm - here it comes again
    hawks - it's alright, it's O.K.
    hyts - backstabber
    kind - I've got you
eddie money - i'm movin' on
    eddie schwartz - no refuge
silver condor - For the Sake of Survival
    B. E. Taylor Group - never hold back
    tsunami - runaround
union - mainstreet USA - 96KBPS poor audio quality

I have basically made arrangements to buy all these with the CDs going to me and the vinyl albums going to someone else for ripping. It should be less than 2 months before everything is complete.

Would you like a more complete partial set in the meantime? The one set I sent you last year was missing maybe 100, currently I'm only missing the 16 on the above list.

    Sincerely,
    Phil D.

Union was a Canadian band formed and fronted by Randy Bachman. Formerly known as 'Ironhorse', they reached the US charts twice, first with the top 40 Sweet Lui Louise in 1979 and again with What's Your Hurry Darlin' in 1980. When their label dropped them in 1980, Bachman changed the name to Union, switched labels and released On Strike in 1981, which was their last album before Bachman went solo
