Anyone here ever had nerve decompression surgery around the tendons in your wrist?

I've been having a lot of pain in my wrist and have troubling grasping heavier objects. I wake up with my right arm numb from the elbow down to the fingertips. I've lost a lot of muscle strength in my right arm as well.

The doctor said that it is the beginning of CUBITAL tunnel syndrome. It's similar to carpal tunnel but on the pinky finger side of the hand. I've been trying steroid injections and anti-inflammatory medication for about six months now, without any real improvement.

I'm having nerve decompression surgery next Tuesday. During the operation, the tendon sheath will be cut away. This will allow the tendon to swell but without compressing the nerve. Really, the surgery will just treat a symptom not the underlying cause of the problem.

I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar operation and could tell me what to expect in terms of healing and regaining strength in my hand.
