    Post TKA Returns...

They've gotten back together and have released a new single, "When Will I See You". It's being played in New York on WKTU. They're working on a new album as well.

Shannon has a new album, "The Best is Yet to Come". She may be touring this Summer to support this album.. You can hear clips on cdnow.com

I've heard there is a "Show Me 2000" floating around. I would guess it's a remix of the Cover Girls classic.. Has anyone heard anything?

Okay, that's all for now.. I haven't been around but I will try my best to get back here as soon as I can...

There was a Shannon "Give Me Tonight 2000" on the Billboard dance charts a few weeks ago. It was kinda trance/progressive around 132 bpm. All of the original synths and beats and melodies were stripped out. I listened to it a few times and didn't really care for it. Some things are better left alone.

i love what Hex Hextor did with "Give Me Tonight". He brought new life to this classic dance track. When i first heard about the remix contest Todd Terry was having for this song late last year i was like "this should be interesting..." at first the winning remix was supposed to be the b-side of an upcoming Shannon single - but i guess they had enough faith in the Hex mix to release it on it's own - and resulting on the new album.

You could hardly call it a remix since everything from the original song is gone. Yes, the vocals are there but they don't fit the music at all. Using Hector's formula for this "remix" you could replace the vocal track with Madonna's "Into The Groove" acapella and call it "Into The Groove 2000."

If you heard "Give Me Tonight 2000" without the vocals you couldn't even tell what song it was a remix of, since all of the original melodies have been removed. And when you take away the vocals you are left with a trance/progressive track that is mediocre at best. Definately not one that I would buy and I love that style of music.

The original song told a story of two different couples having problems with their relationships. In the new version the story gets lost in the music.

Trance music is intended to have it's listeners totally immersed in the music and sounds- the progressive style builds energy over time. It lifts you up and then brings you back down again which is why the music works so well with mind/mood altering drugs. You are supposed to get lost in the music. It's hardly the place to tell a story.

Nice try, but sorry. It just doesn't work for me.

i totally respect your opinion, yaz - but! how can you not think hex's remix is brilliant? if you don't wanna call it a remix - call it a remake. i don't think if someone released a mix that sounded too much like the original it would make too much noize. i love freestyle to death! BUT! it's not really what dance audiences are interested in right now.

I haven't heard the song yet - so I don't know where my opinion would fall.. Although I do love the original for sure..

It's a shame that audiences aren't into hearing Freestyle right now.. I think if TKA makes a big impact on the scene, then maybe that will change..

I love progressive and techno and all that stuff too. But Freestyle is my true favorite.
