Kon Kan weren't 1 hit wonders. They had more hits. Well, unless they had just one hit on the mainstream charts

Sketcher, ur absolutely right .... local charts as compared to national (I'm talking Canadian only here) .... many of the artists probably had many top 10 hits in their local juridictions ....

To me they're all multiple hit wonders ... I'm sure others on the board would scratch their heads at some of the names on the list .... remember Lita Ford (Kiss me deadly) ... that's all she's remembered for by most, but she had a couple of albums out, and I believe she had a duet with Ozzy Osbourne (??? - gotta check that one).

Lita Ford/ Ozzy -If I Close my Eyes, It's very popular

I'm Canadian ,and most of these songs I've never never heard of, unless I just don't know the title or band.

What about the spoons, the box, payola's or john Hyde, parachute club , Toronto, Luba, Headpins, Northern Pikes, I think they all had hits in Canada

Tough to do a one-hit-wonder thing in Canada because one hit = mega success lol.

My girlfriend in high school used to go see Blue Peter almost once a month it seems.

The Payolas/Rock & Hyde probably had too many hits between them to be called one-hit-wonders.

A lot of old (good) memories in this thread...cheers folks.

The list is even larger then that Caligula .... I'm trying to put a web page together, dedicated to our 80's Music stars in Canada .... I've found one excellent site that has about 95% of the information you'd like on Canadian Artists in general .... sadly they are missing some.

Those were the days ..... hanging out in the Queen street area .... The Bamboo Club, El Macobo, Sneaky Dee's, the Nags Head .... so many to mention.

Have you noticed that the retro scene is making a bit of a comeback thanks to JACKFM (I believe anyway) -> http://www.925jackfm.com/eprise/main...kfm/index.html

I've jammed with a few of these guys .... I remember see Boys Brigade practice when they were a garage bad !

Glad to see others enjoying this thread.

I used to listen to a couple of Canadian radio stations in the 80's. I live in Erie PA which is right across the lake (Lake Erie) from London Ontario. I remember groups like Rock and Hyde, The Kings, Chilliwack, Payolas, Gary O, Headpins and a few others.

I remember the Northern Pikes but it was for a 90's tune. It said something like "She ain't beautiful she just looks that way". Is that correct?

The Northern Pikes were around most of the 80's and early 90's. Tehy even have a greatest hits out from 1984-93. The songs I remember are
    She's a girl with a problem
    Teenland
    Kiss me you fool
She ain't pretty she just looks that way

Rock and Hyde was Paul Hyde from the Payola's and some other guy ?

Hehe...is that sarcasm Cal or an honest question?

Bob Rock was in the Payolas with Paul Hyde too. After Rock & Hyde he went on to become a big shot producer probably most famous for his work with Metallica.

Bogie, I really never knew... Last night when I was typing it, I briefly thought for a second, could this be Bob Rock, but quickly dismissed it ... it's good to know

Candi had more hits than just those 2... don't forget Under Your Spell and Missing You. Then in the early 90's she gave the BackBeat credit on the album World keeps on Turning, which spawned the hits World Just Keeps on Turning & Friends Forever

Idle Eyes also had Tokyo Rose

Yes, I'm sure they were hits in Canada

RRR (hehehe - sorry couldn't resist!) .... but you're so right. I'd gorgotten about the other sons Candi released (to think that I use to fill for their drummer when they were an Italian Wedding band out here in TO ! ... oh well).

As for Idle Eyes, I did remember Tokyo Rose (I actually have the CD somewhere) ... just wanted the group to know that there was some really excellent talent out of Canada in the 80's (not that there isn't now, but I do believe that the 80's was Canada Greatest Hour in regards to music - my opinion of course).

    Keep them coming !

    Did anyone mention Breeding Ground?

And what was the name of the band that had a hit with a cover of David Essex' Rock On? All I remember is that one of the guys in the band was called Paco. Pretty good version too.

oh, I've got a few one hit wonders for you. Remember TU (the twins)?..I think their names were Pina and Rina...or something rather -- The song was called "stay with me"....MuchMusic played them all the time. I also think I have that song somehwere.

There were also The West End Girls--They sung a song called "It's not like kissing you"...(They had opened up for Samantha Fox when she was in town--back in the day)

I used to love the song by Annette Ducharme--"No such thing"...I don't think she did anything else.

Is this music too girlie for you guys to remember?

Re: Canadian One Hit Wonders ...

I've been listening to a radio station which has been playing a lot more 80's music in their playlist. This prompted me to start searching for Canadian 80's songs which I had forgotten about. Some might be considered one hit wonders, depending on the airplay in your neck of the woods. ;-)

So far, here's what I've come up with:

    Martha & the Muffins / M+M
"Echo Beach", "Cooling the Medium", "Black Stations, White Stations"

Blue Peter - "Walk on Past"

    The Box
"L'affaire du Moutier", "Walk Away", "Closer Together"

Cats Can Fly - "Flippin' to the A-Side"

FM & Nash the Slash - "Just Like You"

    Idle Eyes - "Tokyo Rose"

Eye Eye - "Out on a Limb"

    Spoons
"Romantic Traffic", "Old Emotions", "Nova Heart", "Tell No Lies"

Paul Janz - "Go to Pieces"

Men Without Hats - "Pop Goes the World"

    Luba
"Every Time I See Your Picture I Cry", "Let It Go", "How Many"

    Strange Advance - "We Run"

Boys Brigade - "Melody", "Passion of Love"

    Teenage Head - "Let's Shake"

And of course there were the bigger bands, such as Honeymoon Suite, Platinum Blonde, etc.
