So far, here's what I've come up with:

    Martha & the Muffins / M+M
"Echo Beach", "Cooling the Medium", "Black Stations, White Stations"

Blue Peter - "Walk on Past"

    The Box
"L'affaire du Moutier", "Walk Away", "Closer Together"

Cats Can Fly - "Flippin' to the A-Side"

FM & Nash the Slash - "Just Like You"

    Idle Eyes - "Tokyo Rose"

Eye Eye - "Out on a Limb"

    Spoons
"Romantic Traffic", "Old Emotions", "Nova Heart", "Tell No Lies"

Paul Janz - "Go to Pieces"

Men Without Hats - "Pop Goes the World"

    Luba
"Every Time I See Your Picture I Cry", "Let It Go", "How Many"

    Strange Advance - "We Run"

Boys Brigade - "Melody", "Passion of Love"

    Teenage Head - "Let's Shake"

And of course there were the bigger bands, such as Honeymoon Suite, Platinum Blonde, etc.

    Brad
    Caligula ...

    Excellent (as always!)
There's more to add to ....

Cats Can Fly also had - "Lies are gonna getcha" (their first release, didn't do anything, then they released after "out on a limb")

Paul Janz - Close my eyes(85), Believe in me (87), I wont cry (88?) - had a couple of more hits in the 90's

Idle Eyes also released a song calle 'All Day', nice little dance tune, very popish .... "all day, i listen to the radio, all day, i listen to my stereo ...", it was pretty catchy

Like I said in the orginal thread ... these were (and in some cases where they're still playing ... are) still fanatastic artists ....

Men without Hates - "Saftey Dance"

By the way ... do you know what Martha, from Martha and the Muffins (aka M&M) is doing now? Childrens performer !, my duaghters thjinks she's great .... when I tell them that she had 'dance songs' out on the radio when I was growing up, they snicker at me and "Dad, stop joking with us.." - oh well waht you gona do

    Mike
    Canadian80's (aka Mike)

Stalked and Stalking the 'Ultimate' Dark Haired - Metal Queen (and part-time PalTalk DJ)... Annette

ValJ's Slave ... Hit me with your rythem stick ...

Stalked by one of exchanges many Hotties - TopCat

oh! I am reminded of something. Anyone remember the song Congo Toronto? I can't remember who did it though. Most people I knew used to ridicule it (and it was pretty silly really). But I always got a kick out of it anyway.

LOL....I forgot about the Shuffle Demons. Their version of the theme from Hockey Night In Canada rocked!

I got off my lazy arse and looked up Congo Toronto and it seems it was by Robert Priest and released in 1986 (same year as Shuffle Demons first album). Amusing if you can ever find it.

JS, yes Brighton Rock is Canadian (Niagara Falls, Ontario I believe ??), I remember seeing them a couple of times. They are the only group I know who have gotten an encore as an opening band ... it was for Triumphs - Tour of Kings ... one of the best perfomances I have seen in a live concert.

Bogie ... question ... what's your source for music ? Canoe has a site on all eras for Canadian artist, but it sorely lacks and the Web Master is not interested in keeping it upto date or adding missing artisits and information (I know, I've submitted a number of corrections ).

Actually, I just googled with "congo toronto music" and at the top of the list was a UofT page listing Robert Priest's poetry and music.

I have yet to find a really good resource for canadian music online. I wonder if Ivor Hamilton ever set something up? He was the most knowledgeable personality I remember. Must go searching again

Re: Canadian One Hit Wonders ...

i believe this was canadian, but not sure if it was a 1 hit wonder or not... his name was Paul Lekakis and he sang a song called 'Boom Boom (Let's Go Back to My Room)'

funny story: a few years ago, i heard two 80's songs on the radio that i remembered from my youth and i just had to have them, but like most radio stations, they don't tell you what the song is or who sings it. Turns out, both songs ('Hold Me Now' and 'Do You Believe') were by canadian group One to One and appeared on an album that i already owned on cassette and didn't know it. D'OH!

none of these were one hit wonders (well actually i think some of them might be), but i just wanna pay homage to some of those great canadian artists...

sherry kean - 'i want you back'
doug and the slugs - 'too bad', 'makin it work' and 'day by day'
    coney hatch - 'hey operator'
frozen ghost - 'should i see'
    partland brothers - 'soul city'
trans x - 'living on video'
david foster - 'love theme from st. elmos fire', and 'the best of me (duet with olivia newton-john)'
bob and doug mackenzie with geddy lee - 'take off (eh?)'
eddie schwartz - 'all our tomorrows'
bruce cockburn - 'wondering where the lions are'
    jeff healey - 'angel eyes'
dan hill - 'helpless', 'can't we try', and 'never thought (that i could love)'
gino vanelli - 'black cars' and 'wild horses'
april wine - 'just between you and me'
payola$ - 'eyes of a stranger', and 'never said i loved you'
rough trade - 'high school confidential'
    helix - 'rock you'
    lee aaron - 'body rock'
one to one - 'there was a time', angel in my pocket', 'hold me now' and 'do you believe'
glass tiger - 'my town', 'dont forget me (when i'm gone)', and 'im still searching'
parachute club - 'rise up' and 'at the feet of the moon'
    joey gregorash - 'together'
luba - 'let it go', and 'how many (rivers to cross'
zappacosta - 'nothing could stand in your way'
kim mitchell - 'easy to tame', and 'patio lanterns'
billy newton-davis - 'right beside you'
red rider / tom cochrane - 'big league', 'good times', and 'boy inside the man'
haywire - 'dance desire', and 'bad bad boy'
the nylons - 'kiss him goodbye'

i probably missed a zillion more, but not to worry.. there's still time. lol

Re: Canadian One Hit Wonders ...

    I'll add some more...

doug and the slugs - 'too bad', 'makin it work' and 'day by day'
'who knows how to make love stay'

trans x - 'living on video'
    'Maria'

gino vanelli - 'black cars' and 'wild horses'
'it hurts to be in love'

kim mitchell - 'easy to tame', and 'patio lanterns'
    'go for soda'

Men Without Hats also had 'Moonbeam', 'O Sole Mio', 'Hey Men', 'In The 21st Century' and then they decided to change their music genre and released 'Sideways' (light years before the grunge era!) and 'Kenbarbielove'.

aaaand Mitsou (just because) also had 'La corrida', 'Les chinois', "Dis-moi, dis-moi', 'lettre a un cowboy', that awful 'Everybody Say Love' and a few more which didn't seem to make it outside of Quebec

i always liked Kim Mitchell, but i hated Go For A Soda. The video with the fat kid didn't help the song either. lol

when i was little, i had this canadian compilation tape called 'Electric North'. it was a whole compilation of canadian 80's hits that came out in like 1983 i believe. it was a cool tape. had everything from Bryan Adams and Sherrif to Chilliwack and Harlequin

Hey my sister had the Electric North Album, I remember Innocence by Harlequin and High School Confidential by Rough Trade.

The album was blue, with orange sound waves that made a shape of a guitarist
