the 'electric north' album that i had, had a picture of a melting ice cube wearing big black headphones on the album sleeve. it was one of those old 80's compilations from 'quality records'. i'm sure we all had atleast one of those. lol

    Personality.
Hows that for a forgotten one!

I won the Q107 homegrown album volume 2 in 1980.
The only time I ever heard the song was during the contest.
Still have the perfect copy of it.
I still have my Q107 rock patrol wings and card.

I LOVE Canadian music myself, and not just cause I'm a Canuck. There's some great music coming out of our country.
    Some of my faves:
    Crash Test Dummies
    Northern Pikes
Chilliwack (I actually live in the city this band took their name from)
    Trooper
    Loverboy
    Alanis Morissette
    Alanah Myles
    Sass Jordan
    Barenaked Ladies
    Jann Arden
    Bootsauce

I could keep going, and going, and going LOL

I didn't even know Bootwsauce were Canadian. They were the ones that did a cover of the Hot Chocolate classic 'Every 1's A Winner'?

I never really liked anything the Northern Pikes did other than the album that had She Ain't Pretty and Girl With A Problem

Re: Canadian One Hit Wonders ...

If you haven't already found the answer to your question, 'Innocence' was indeed performed by Harlequin. The song is featured on both their 1981 album 'Love Crimes' and their 1986 'Greatest Hits' compilation.

Music critics often compared Harlequin to Loverboy, but I never quite made the connection.

For the record, my favorite Harlequin song was 'Thinking of You'.

Whew.... I just read this entire thread in about 5 minutes. The memories!!!

And now, my award for the best 80's song by a Canadian One-Hit Wonder goes to........

    *drum-roll*

    'Far From Over', by Blvd!!!!

    *mad applause*

I once heard someone say that if you took an infinite number of monkeys, gave them an infinite number of typewriters, and an infinite amount of time, one of them would eventually hammer out a perfect reproduction of 'War and Peace'. Well, in the same vein, the laws of probability smiled upon Bvld. that fateful day in 1988 when this otherwise mediocre band went into the recording studio and produced what was (in my opinion) the quintessential opus of Canadian 80s rock. If you either don't remember this song or simply haven't heard it, download it!! Right down to the groovy sax solo, this song epitomizes everything I love about the 80s!!

As an aside, my award for the most underrated song by a Canadian rock artist in the 80's goes to Idle Eyes for their 1985 single 'Two Rivers'.

Re: Canadian One Hit Wonders ...

Chilliwack had a whole handful of hits Canadian hits from like 1974-1977 but in the 80's, only charted three hits (all three went top 40 in both US and Canada) with My Girl (Gone Gone Gone), I Believe and What'cha Gonna Do (When I'm Gone)

I remember Aldo Nova had two big Canadian Hits: Fantasy and Foolin' Yourself (both 1982)

I remember Chalk Circles version of 20th century boy...was popular here

were you thinking "NAKED EYES _ PROMISES PROMISES"??
Idle eyes had hits with Toyko Rose and Blue Train out this way

Strange Advance was one of my faves...We run and Home of the brave were bigger out this way as well (could be because they were from Vancouver

Lots of great stuff came out of Canada in the 80s, and lots of great New bands out of canada as well.

I'll be seeing Doug and the Slugs next week up here at our music festival. (I used to date their current drummer)
I could go on and on about favorite canadian artists.......

Re: Canadian One Hit Wonders ...

Just a note, I think you made an error in your initial post.

"Promises Promises" was recorded by NAKED Eyes, and not IDLE Eyes.
    Idle Eyes recorded "Tokyo Rose".

Naked Eyes also had the hit "Always Something There To Remind Me".

Re: Canadian One Hit Wonders ...

Sorry to dig up an old post, but I just had to... so many great bands listed!
Someone mentioned One to One... Little bit of trivia about the group; Formed by Leslie Howe & Louise Reny who both went on to form Sal's Birdland & later Artificial Joy Club who had the hit "Sick & Beautiful" in 1995. They both had a hand early on in Alanis Morissette's career, both writing & producing her "bubble-gum pop" albums "Alanis" & "Now is the Time"

FWIW, they just finished the new ice arena across the street from my house.... Jann Arden is performing opening nite! Too Cool
