Little bit of trivia about the group; Formed by Leslie Howe & Louise Reny who both went on to form Sal's Birdland & later Artificial Joy Club who had the hit "Sick & Beautiful" in 1995. They both had a hand early on in Alanis Morissette's career, both writing & producing her "bubble-gum pop" albums "Alanis" & "Now is the Time"

FWIW, they just finished the new ice arena across the street from my house.... Jann Arden is performing opening nite! Too Cool
I never liked Artificial Joy Club. One to One were my favourite Canadian band of the 80's, and I just couldn't see them jumping from fun pop/dance songs to a grunge style.

I've been digging into the Canadian archives, and come up with more Canadian groups of the 80's.. not quite sure if they were 1 hit wonders though, and not sure if they have been listed yet, but I'll give it a shot:

All the Tea in China - Susan Jacks (1980)
Knee Deep in Love - Klaatu (1980)
Can I Come Near - Graham Shaw and the Sinscere Serenaders (1980)
    Janine - Trooper (1980) <-- I know for sure it wasn't a 1 hit wonder, but it's just a fun song!
Tired of Waking Up Tired - The Diodes (1978) <-- was 70's, I know, but again, it's just a fun song!
Hold On - Ian Thomas (1980)
Right Beside You - Billy Newton Davis (1986)

My favourite Trooper song was Oh, Pretty Lady. For some reason, I always thought it was an 80's song because i had it on an old K-Tel collection from 1981 called Certified Gold

Everytime I hear the song The Boys in the Bright White Sports Car by Trooper, I think of that Tim Horton's commercial where the guy's driving along while singing along and eating up all the donuts he was taking home to his family

I saw Trooper 3 years ago at a rink , it was a great show but made me think that it 20 years earlier I was watching them at the metro centre that holds 10,000.

Saw Doug (no slugs) about 7 years ago in a bar, he looked old, overweight and was a sloppy drunk

April Wine is still my favorites of old Canadian Bands making the rounds, especially their 70's stuff

I wonder what's made Doug go down the tubes like that. I always thought he was one of the best artists to emerge from Canadian music in the 80's

That's an easy one to answer.........drinking too much, not knowing when to slow down and being the anal retentive guy he always has been! Doug is Doug, he will never change and sadly that will be fatal someday......there are personal reasons for alot of it, but none i want to get into

    Ironhorse - What's Your Hurry Darlin' (1980)

They weren't a one hit wonder, but I was a minor U.S. hit and think it was the only one they had hit the U.S. charts?

Aldo Nova was great! He was also a great song writer. Wrote a song called Don't You Want My Love that was recorded by an artist named Nicole for the soundtrack to the 1986 film Ruthless People. It became a BIG club hit that year

Re: Canadian One Hit Wonders ...

I just today realized this was the very first thread I posted in here at the xchange back in April, so I thought I'd add more one hit wonders (some I have taslked about in other threads)

    ----------

Your Place or Mine ~ Private Eye (1979)

was a band created by Gordie and Hughie Leggat, ex-members of the band A Foot in Cold Water. They also released an album called Illuminations under the name Leggat

    ----------

Together (The New Wedding Song) ~ Joey Gregorash (1986)

He had a few hits in the 70's, but as far as I know, this was his lone 80's hit

    ----------

Date With the Past ~ Doubledare (1986)

The duo of fortmer Tenants guitarist Andy McLean and new vocalist Wendy Landis

    ----------

Can I Come Near ~ Graham Shaw and the Sincere Serenaders (1980)

    ----------

    Rain ~ Michael Breen (1987)

    No, it's not MacGyver

    ----------

All the Tea in China ~ Susan Jacks (1980)

It was a country song, but it did reach the Canadian top 40 in 1980. She was a member of The Poppy Family in the 60's and 70's with her husband Terry "Seasons in the Sun" Jacks

    ----------

Behind Your Eyes ~ Prototype (1984)
    Video Kids ~ Prototype (1984)

    ----------

Stop the Music ~ Body Electric (1984)

Body Electric was a project created by Bob Buckley and David Sinclair, two ex-members of Straight Lines

    ----------

    A Little Lovin' ~ Chantal (1989)

    ----------

I will have more soon ...

TU AMANDA & CASSANDRA DIBLASI 'SECRETS IN THE DARK'

TU Amanda & Cassandra DiBlasi ...Canadian pop twin duo from the late 80's. Released 2 lp's...a self-titled one as well as SECRETS IN THE DARK...They also did a duet entitled LOVER with another Canadian artist Paris BLACK (the girls did amazing vocals on this track...and there are 2 version of the song a longer and shorter one...the longer one is much better). TU also supplied back-up vocals on a PLATINUM BLONDE track entitled FIRE and they also appeared in the video. TU released 4 music videos THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE, STAY WITH ME, LAST EMBRACE & I USED TO CRY..(I have all of their music videos) ....I USED TO CRY was filmed at Sunnyside Pavillion on Lakeshore Blvd in Toronto.

If anyone would like me to make them copies of TU's cds or send them mp3's via email, just drop me a line at kirkbulmer@hotmail.com

** Also if anyone has any info past or present on TU or has any photos of them or ever had the chance to meet them or see them perform live please let me know....

    No one understands the heartache,
    No one feels the pain,
'Cos no one ever sees the tears
When you're crying in the rain,
When you're crying in the rain,
    Crying in the rain...

Informer wasn't technically a one hit wonder. He had another US top 20 hit called 'Girl I've Been Hurt'. On the Canadian scene.. he's had several major hits including (click one to hear a clip):

Everybody Wants to Be Like You
    The Plumb Song
