a-ha: Stay On These Roads (1988)

I dug this cassette out last night and listened to it and it was like being with an old friend. This was probably the weakest of the first three albums by a-ha, but it still has some real gems. It features very strong vocals by Moren Harkett.

The ballads, Stay on These Roads, This Alone Is Love and There's Never a Forever Thing, are powerful and smooth. You'll End Up Crying is a little tougher and a bit sad (obviously). The Blood That Moves the Body and Hurry Home fall a little short of being classics, but are still fairly good. The Living Daylights is a very good James Bond Movie theme. Touchy! seems a bit silly, but it's catchy and makes me tap my toes. But my favorites are You Are the One, a very happy song that I could listen to all day and Out of Blue Come Green, a little bit darker song that makes me think. I love this album.

a-ha fans, what's your favorite song from this album.

You beat me to it, Greenway, making a poll about this album

Well, first of all I must agree with on your point about this being the "weakest" of the three first albums. This not meaning a bad album at all

I voted for "Out of blue comes green". This song has been the song that has stuck and grown with me through the years. As you, Greenway, I also start to think a lot when listening to this. Its atmosphere it brings and the lyrics are truly great. I consider this a definate classic

The singles from this album aren't that that powerfull (maybe excluding the title song) - and the 12" version of "Touchy" is downright awfull There I said it But the album as such makes up for it by tunes, such as "This Alone Is Love", "The Living Daylights" and the before mentioned "Out of blue....."

The Bond theme is a classic when A-ha play live - a real crowd pleaser that I really look forward singing along to tomorrow when Im going to see them

"There's Never a Forever thing". I find it like a sister of "Hunting High..."I love them both.....and "Stay on This Roads".......hard, very hard too choose, Greenway.

Problem with picking songs from a-ha is I like too many of them. I can pick out some definite favorites on certain albums, but not on many. With this album I'd probably go with "Stay On These Roads" or "The Living Daylights". But then, I also love "The Blood that Moves the Body" and others... ack

the blood that moves the body reminds me of an alphaville track, and it has a rather profound subject matter (suicide?), so i voted for that!
