If I had to pick one? I'd say Steve Smith from journey. That guy is a phenomenol jazz drummer as well.

I had to go with 'other' because my favorite drummer is Tommy Lee.

Re: Favorite Drummer
I had to go with other. Simon Phillips has always been my favourite since the first time I heard Shadow On The Wall.
For those who don't know him, he was worked with a ton of bands but his largest body of work comes from Mike Oldfields recordings in the 70s and early 80s. His discography reads like a who's who of rock. My personal favourite is his work on Pictures In The Dark. Just exudes control. The man even played on Toyah records including her live release Warrior Rock which kicked ass IMHO even though it's really just pop music.
Close seconds are also Stewart Copeland, Mel Gaynor (Simple Minds - after New Gold Dream) and Mark Brzezicki of Big Country.Boom! Boom!
Waaahahahahaha!

Re: Favorite Drummer
Most of you have probably never heard of Yoshiki Hayashi. He was the drummer for X and later X-Japan. He is unbelievably talented. Not only did he play drums, he also played the piano on their ballads and he wrote virtually all the songs. Now, he is a huge producer, wons Exstasy Records and was asked to arrange a symphony for the Emperor of Japan. He is truly amazing.

I cast my vote for 'Other'. For me, Bonzo was/is/always will be to the greatest drummer ever.

Re: Favorite Drummer
I voted for Tommy Aldridge, This guy plays in Whitesnake, Played in Ozzy's band for year and performed drumming on Project Driver and Vinnie Moore solo debut. Other drummers I like are late great Tony Thompson, Cozy Powell, Mikkey Dee's drumming in King Diamond was brilliant.
