    Favorite Simple Minds song?

Back in those young days when you had One Favourite Band, I was a Simple Minds fan. This period lasted from when I heard "Promised You A Miracle" for the first time (the spring of '82), and it ended gradually in the second half of the 80's. "Sons And Fascination" was my first ever LP, and I still enjoy its originality. The big change in their sound was when the bassist Derek Forbes left some time after they recorded "Don't You (Forget About Me)" - in my opinion, he was one of the best bass players of the period, an essential part of the Scottish quintet, and nothing they did after that matched their best moments of the early 80's (in my ears). John Giblin sounded like just any old bass player who could have played in any pub cover band, where Forbes created really special funky bass lines. But that's all history now. - I can't really choose one single favourite song, but it would be something from 1981-82. The great instrumental "Theme For Great Cities" is close. I'm glad that Jim Kerr never wrote lyrics for it, there are some other cases where the SM song is better without vocals (I've read that the others usually jammed until they had something that could turn into a song, and that's when Kerr started singing to it and writing words).

I voted Other, because my favorite is "Sanctify Yourself." Awesome song. Nobody plays it. :sad.

I voted Other. As much as I love "Don't You (Forget About Me)", my favorite tune from Simple Minds is the anthemic "Alive and Kicking"... awesome song!

I've voted "Don't you", but I've been in the point of clicking "Other". I've chosen it basically for the "context" of this song (you know, Breakfast Club and so on) but I think that, as a song, I prefer "See the lights", my second option -not included in the list.

    Don't you forget about me.

I think I appreciate Simple Minds more now than I did back then.

I really love Someone Somewhere In Summertime. I think it's one of the best songs of the '80's.

Cool Re: Favorite Simple Minds song?

"Don't You" is a classic song that goes with a classic movie. When they play it live and Charlies riff starts before Mel's beat awesome! I could listen to that song over and over. "Promised You A Miracle is awesome too, Simple Minds would probably be my all time favourite overseas band.

One of the best bands of the 80s in my opinion.

I went for Someone Somewhere, although its probably my second favourite Simple Minds song... my favourite is All The Things She Said.
