    Nrg - Houston

Hello NRG folks of that once great club (1986 ---??) on 901 N. Shepherd in Houston, Texas...I need some help. I am compiling a list of every song anyone ever recalls being played at NRG in Houston. My apologies to those who never went there as this thread excludes them (SORRY!!!).
I am simply trying to create a master list....so with that said, any help would be appreciated. I have started the first few just to show the format and because I need to get back to work! I will add my own as time permits!

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR EVERYONE's HELP!

    001. The Great Commandment - Camoulfage

Good luck. Since there were no live broadcasts, everyone is going to have to go on memory. Did any one go to NRG and stay sober enough to remember more then 2-3 songs that played that night? You can go to my website and click on the club tapes. I have 3 tapes from NRG's and the tracklisting is there. Also, any of the 1988 6400 songs, would probably have been played there as well. I only went to NRG's once and didn't have that great of a time, so I can't say I remember any song being played at NRG's. The club closed in 1988 as the owner went downtown and started the club EGO's. It was a 21 and up club that was suppose to get all the older people that didn't want to hang out with the 18 and up at 6400 and Xcess. It didn't work out and changed to a late night club, Therapy, after the law forced liquor serving clubs to close at 2am. The dj at Therapy, Willie, was also a dj at NRG's.

    Re: Nrg - Houston

Sorry I am so tardy in this particular thread, as I normally only go into the "where can i find this song..." thread. This is the first time I have wandered into a different thread and i am glad i did!
I did go to NRG pretty much every Friday & Saturday night from the time it opened up till the time it closed down RIP NRG. I have to say that I would probably still be going if it was still open. (you can see by my ID here LOL)

Here is a good list from 6400 & NRG to get you started. They are compiled from CDs that used to be available at a Disc-Go-Round in Houston on 1960 @ I-45. I bought as many of them as I could get my hands on (that was pre-Napster and P2P network days) and they weren't cheap. The NRG CDs were about $45 each and only had 10 to 12 songs on them and the 6400 CDs were $55-$60 each. It was my understanding at the time (early to mid 90s) that the CDs were created from vinyl LPs and duplicated for sale in the store.

If i recall correctly, I think a DJ at Numbers (if he's still there) used to be a DJ at NRG as well. His name was DeGrate.

    Here's the list...

    What a great collection!!!!!

I wish you would of posted this 7 years ago........

I can't tell you how much time I spent looking for most of those songs. I knew titles to most, but not artists. Not to mention downloading from Napster with dial-up!!!

I have posted this in another thread about a year ago and got no response, so I will try this thread since it pertains to NRG. Does anyone happen to have the original NRG radio commercial? I can't remember any of the dialogue other than "...with a cast of thousands...", which played over a portion of Section 25's "Looking From A Hilltop".

    Thanks in advance...

Anyone remember the Rosco and Marty afterparties. Seems like I was at NRG every friday and saturday. I wonder what Adam and Andy Aaronson are up to. What about Bones? Although the club was quite excessive with the drugs, it sure was fun. Lots of babes!! Never been anything like it since it closed. The end of an era!! Thanks for publishing the music.

Good list, but didn't some of those songs come out after the club had long closed?

    Bones is dead (rip) sorry.

    Re: Nrg - Houston

i am quite sure that many of them came out after NRG closed, but they all pretty much fit the "6400 Music" genre. Most were played at clubs all over Houston (i list a few here in no particular order); NRG, Xcess, 6400, The Lizard Lounge, Network, Mecca, Power Tools, Red Square, Numbers, Ocean Club, Bayou Mama's, Atlantis, Commando, AM (Aftermath), Confettis, Hippo, Blue Planet, etc, etc, etc. Oh, I remember Bones, but does anyone remember the parking lot dude (dont know his name) when NRG first opened, they would pack the cars in with barely enough room to squeeze out your door and if you got there a parked early, you werent leaving anytime soon cuz you were blocked in by many rows with no exit. also, the traffic exiting Sheperd off I-10 was usually backed up on the feeder lane back to where the kiddie club Carz was and it would take what seemed like hours to get to the parking lot. oh, back to the parking lot dude, when they first opened, the parking attendants were issued flashlights to aid drivers in getting parked, but one of the parking attendants had a tendency to throw his flashlight thru windows of those patrons too wigged out to pay attention to his signals. anyway about 3 weekends into them being opened, they took away their flashlights and gave them white towels to use for directing traffic!

    what memories...

I don't have that one, but I have the 1988 New Years Eve commercial. They gave out records of the commercial. I still have it and converted it to MP3 if you want a copy.

Here are a couple of sites with lots of mp3's from the clubs in Houston at that time. Even a live broadcast from 6400. http://funkygreentabs.multiply.com

    Re: Nrg - Houston

I never went to NRG, seems we we're always going somewhere else. Xcess
was our hangout. It was a very important part of my life. If we could
have only wrote a book on the sights and sounds. Friendships earned and
the just of it all. I got to know Kurtis the light guy from xcess. He at some
point did lights for Decadance. He let us hang out in the booth in the old
tower theater. They had couches and cool decore. I used to put contacts
in my eyes and when i looked up at the black lights , my eyes would glow
bright green . It was like my eyes were made of lazers. I still have three
sets, but never could put em in myself. At Excess they had a mens bathroom
attendant, named ANDRE. No matter how many times, i tried , i never could
get his name pronounced to his liking. he would allways correct me. He was
allways drawing these little stick figures on his tablet. He never gave or
would even sell me one of those drawings. He would allways hollar,
" come on Guys , Get your Pu_ _ y pops" . Then there was the Doll, the
bartender ANDY. Memory Lane, man. I need to find out the name and
artist of a song that was mixed into other songs. As all of my cassetts, are
long gone.It had the Lyrics - Ive been high so long, that i don't know if im
comming down. Everybody thinks im high and i am. - You are the real real one. Thanks and advise . Psycho
