5 Upcoming Remakes of 80s Movies (That must be stopped)

Came across this website. I thought it was very funny and the guy made a lot of great points about some 80s movies being remade.

I'm surprised Fame wasn't added to the list, or was that 1979? All those movies shouldn't have been made.

The only one that might have a chance is Weird Science. Other then that Hollywood should learn from the other remake flops.

I think this is all a joke. Cracked is a comedy magazine like Mad. I assume the website is all satire too.

I've never been a fan of re-makes. That includes Music, Tv shows, or movies. Eightys flicks, just like 80s music should be left alone and not screwed around with by Hollywood. That's just my not so humble opinion. :lol.

Re: 5 Upcoming Remakes of 80s Movies (That must be stopped)

Doesn't any one have any original ideas these days????

I have read on other websites about the Karate Kid remake starring Will Smith's son so this article may (scarily and sadly) be accurate. And obviously the Friday the 13th remake was #1 at the box office last week, making almost $50 million in one weekend - clearly there is $$$$$ to be made, which is why all these movies are being remade!

The F13 remake did huge business the opening weekend but dropped out of the Top 50 the next week and was out of the theatres completely by week 3. It was THAT bad.

There needs to be a complete moratorium on remakes for at LEAST 10 years and the studios need to be suspended for one year until they can finally figure out what moviegoers actually WANT to see.

The only thing that would keep some of these movies from
having bad remakes is if they left everything the same. Seriously.

I hate to double post, but the edit button dissapeared. :S
Anyways, I just read that "Adventures in Babysitting" and "Valley
Girl" are being remade. I'm skeptical about AIB, but Valley Girl is another
story. It will actually be based in the 80's, of course, but this time its going
to be a musical. That made me cringe for a second, but they're actually
    using 80's songs, so yeah.

I'm not into those movies, but thought it would be interesting to share.

Fame IS being remade. Just read about it....

And it gets worse. Just read an article about planned movie remakes. Some of the more glaring ones:

    1. Back to School - Cedric the Entertainer takes over the role made famous by Rodney Dangerfield. 'Nuff said. We all know how well Cedric's take on "The Honeymooners" fared.

    2. The Evil Dead - Cult horror movie classic. Shouldn't be touched with a 10 foot pole. No one can play the role of "Ash" but Bruce Campbell.

    3. Conan the Barbarian - This one might actually be good. Anyone who's ever read any of the Conan books knows that Arnold was NOT Conan.

    4. Death Wish - Written, directed and starring Sylvester Stallone. Dear Gods, save us.

    5. The Taking of Pelham 123 - Why? What was wrong with the original? What need is there for this? And underrated gem that should be left alone

    6. Hellraiser - Another horror classic, and one that's not that old to begin with. Why the need for a remake???

    7. The Birds - Yet again, some director thinks he can do better than Hitchcock. Hey, maybe Vince Vaughn will star in this disaster too.

    8. A Nightmare On Elm Street - Robert Englund IS Freddy Krueger. End of story.

    9. The Warriors - A 70's Cult Classic. Cheesy, over the top, and thoroughly enjoyable! You can bet a year's salary it will be "modernized" and the great rock & roll and Motown soundtrack replaced with hip-hop.

    10. Escape From New York - *shakes his head* Can ANYONE but Donald Pleasance utter the line "You are the Duke....you are A number one!"?

    11. Porky's - The completely hilarious original is being remade, and the new title is "Howard Stern's Porky's". Need I even comment?

    12. Short Circuit - I can almost guarantee all the charm from the original will be missing.

    13. The Thing - Wasn't this ALREADY remade???

And the worst, at least in MY opinion....

    14. The Rocky Horror Picture Show - This movie is legend. On it's own, a TERRIBLE film, but seen at midnight showings across the country throughout the late 70's and into the 80's, probably one of the more hilarious nights you could spend due to the audience participation.

It's being remade by MTV, and if that alone doesn't strike fear into your hearts....they have promised "a hipper cast and all new music!"

Gone will be "The Time Warp". Can ANY fan of this movie imagine it without that song??? Can anyone imagine Frank N. Furter coming down the elevator and NOT tapping his heel to "Sweet Transvestite"?

    Hollywood truly blows.

Re: 5 Upcoming Remakes of 80s Movies (That must be stopped)

I guess there's no such thing as an original idea of script in the Biz anymore, so why not just recycle every old movie/TV show several times over? Kind of sad...

    I agree with you there!

Ok, how stupid is that? I think we got enough from that franchise and anyone else playing Paul Kersey but Charles Bronson just wouldn't be right.

I think there's been about eight sequels to that one too!

The word "deluded" comes to mind.

I guess they could always bring Englund back for it. They wouldn't have to put on too much make up now I should imagine.

God help us. Leave this classic alone!

They already tried to redo this one with "Escape from LA".

I was thinking I'd like to see the originals again. I don't know about a remake though.

Re: 5 Upcoming Remakes of 80s Movies (That must be stopped)

Simply put, Platinum Dunes studio, (the company that has been doing all of the high profile remakes but the Rob Zombie Halloween remake,) need to be blackballed from Hollywood YESTERDAY! That and the Writer's Guild needs to be turfed EN MASSE since they clearly aren't getting the job done in the industry anymore.
