Now this is the best animated movie of the 80's in my view! i adored this since i was 14 in december sixteen years ago as i was renting it from one of Carlsbad (CA, not NM)'s video stores, it blew me away. I did however had earlier anime experiences as a kid with Jack and The Beanstalk, Warriors of the Wind (a.k.a. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind), Voltron, Inspector Gadget, G-Force and others then when i was 11 i watched Little Nemo Adventures in Slumberland then when i was 12 i watched Vampire Hunter D, My Neighbor Totoro, Robot Carnival and Project A-Ko but this made me the anime fan i am today and still am an Akira fan.

Just an amazing and brilliantly animated Sci-fi cyberpunk epic with tons of action, gore, good storytelling and it's just a one of a kind film experience.

Hands down one of the greatest animate of our time. I didn't know animate can be this "bloody" awesome! First time realized animate's are not just for kid.
BTW, you mentioned a great list of animates movies. I remember city hunter, saint seiya and fist of north star were also dominating the 80's.
