    Thumbs down

They decided to 'remake' Karate Kid...for whatever reason,I have NO idea. (Well I do: "nothing else to make so lets trash another GOOD movie")

I am sure the reason to remake it was money. I actually want to see this, but I am keeping a very open mind.

This has been geting a lot of negative buzz due to the fact that they are practicing kung-fu, not karate, at least in the trailer.

    Re: Karate Kid Remake

Saw the trailer yesterday while I took my 4 year old daughter to see "Alice in Wonderland"'

Thought it looked pretty good, seemed to make alot more sense that the main character, being an a foreigner , would be picked on in China.
A place where martial arts is a part of the heritage rather than some game a bunch of silver spooned rich kids were playing.
Of course it still might turn out to be trash, but the trailer looked good.
So I will be seeing it when it comes out.

    Re: Karate Kid Remake

    There are a couple differences.

    Old version:
Miyagi is Japanese and teaches Karate
Student is White, Named Daniel, Played by Ralph Macchio
Daniel's Mom transferred to Los Angeles
Daniel beat up by Karate students
    Daniel was a teenager

    New version:
Han is Chinese and teaches Kung Fu
Student is black, Named Dre, played by Jaden Smith (Son of Will Smith)
Dre's Mom transferred to Beijing China
Dre beat up by Chinese bullies.
    Dre is 10 years old
Other then that, No difference that I can see.

I love the original Karati Kid and I know it won't be as good as the original, nothing ever is, but I still want to check it out because I like the concept of the movie. I'm keeping an open mind and not expecting it to be better than or as good as the original I just hope it's entertaining.

Karate Kid is a classic, one of the best 80's flicks of all times and in general a cultural iconic film that will live on for decades to come. I'll keep an open mind about it and go see it, but nothing will replace Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio in the original, period.
