Best Chance of Succeeding in the USA?

Which "newer" metal band do you think has the best chance for success in the States, and why?

I'm restricting this to Prog or Power metal. Thrash or Death metal really never reaches big time anyway, with few exceptions.

My vote was tough, because I like all of those bands. However, Symphony X is MILES above the rest in songwriting and performance. See them live and it's like hearing the record! They're now touring with Queensryche, which should open them up to American audiences even more.

I chose Symphony X. Partly because they are the only band I have heard of off this list & I LOVE their music! I was just listening to "Evolution" earlier today Good stuff!

BTW Pagan - where's my CD?

I voted for Edguy just for the fact taht their new album rocks and would be US friendly if anyone had the balls to play it.

The new Dream Evil disc is A-Fn-Mazing!! I really liked the 1st 2 and this one cemented me a fan for life.

EdGuy is playing in Manhattan the week after I get back from Miami. I'm debating whether or not to go see them since they RARELY come around here....

I don't know if you've heard them yet Creeps....but look for Adagio to steal the show at Prog Power. They're f*cking INCREDIBLE!

I have both discs my metal brotha!

I heard they lost their singer though and are rehearsing for a replacement come ProgPower.

Into Eternity just got a new drummer.

There was a band called Sun Caged slotted to play the pre-party Thursday night before the big show and I heard they lost 3 guys and had to cancel. I even think they broke up. Shame, they were pretty damn good and I was looking forward to see them.

Re: Best Chance of Succeeding in the USA?

I had to go other on this one, even though I don't think that my choice really has a chance of making it in the United States. I choose Lacuna Coil. They have a small following in the U.S. but nothing great. Since moving over here to Europe I have been able to see them live. Man, they are good. Evanescence (or however you spell it) should hope these guys don't make it big in the States and show the U.S. what a real "heavy" band led by a great looking lady should sound like.

Yeah Pagan, you are right. I need to stop whining about missing Judas Priest at Ozzfest and live up the music scene over here in Europe. This really is a metalhead's paradise. Some of the local unsigned bands are just killer! We actually have Kerrang and Scuzz, two twenty four hour Metal video stations. This week Kerrang is dedicated to Iron Maiden vs. Mettalica. I need to go vote!

Re: Best Chance of Succeeding in the USA?

I heard about the singer leaving....seems they are all still good friends, but his management f*cked things up! You ever hear the other band he's in, Pink Cream 69? GREAT band that's a weird combo of power and hair metal.

Into Eternity kicks major ass also. I haven't heard Sun Caged yet...what do they sound like?

Symphony X with Kamelot a very close second. Haven't heard the other bands though.

Re: Best Chance of Succeeding in the USA?

I'd have to go with Dragonforce. They have become more recognized with inclusion of their songs on Guitar Hero, especially "Through The Fire and The Flames" which is an incredible song. I saw them live in 2006 at the Chance. They are awesome and it was even cooler how they came out to the parking lot after the show to meet their fans and sign autographs. Most bands wouldn't have the time to do something like that and it was pretty cool!
