A song only heard once! Help me find it.
Hi Guys,
I heard this song on Jan 1st 90-91! on 91X out of San Diego sometime after midnight. They where playing 80's all night.
I'm not sure if it was a custom mix or not. The song was interesting in that it was a story being sung more then a traditional song.
Let me describe what I recall hopefully accurately after 19 years!
The song starts out with the sound of tires squealing and a man and lady talking about something. The theme of the song is probation era gangsters. There is a machine gun sound effect at the start and the song begins. I believe the people where chased into a building by the cops who are now outside or something like that.
I recall it has a guy talking in it that sounded to me like "jimmy stewart" who might be a news reporter in this song..
Anyways that is ALL I recall about the song. No title, no artists. Not knowing the name has bugged me for 20 years!
If anyone knows what the hell I'm talking about please let me know. I promise I was sober when I heard this.
/E

Great song Cal. Wonder if anyone but us old Canucks remember The Box.
Anyway, I think Ericc might be looking for The Friends of Mr. Cairo by Jon and Vangelis. Awesome track.

Sorry, had to edit this. Deserves much more detailed response.
Jon Anderson (of Yes fame) recorded this album (and title track) with Vangelis (Greek artist famous for soundtracks - Blade Runner, Chariots of Fire, etc). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ph8hNljOXE
The single version of Friends of Mr. Cairo is really only the first half of the full track which tops out at 12:04 on the album and CD version. If you have the time, it is actually much better. This version was usually only played late at night and on less commercial stations back then. Here is a version edited with some incredible old movie images by a fan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnnS9...eature=related
Wikipedia album information for Friends of Mr. Cairo can be found here....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Friends_of_Mr._Cairo
