Billboard vs. Cashbox - Which were considered Top 40 hits

Anyone remember Cashbox Magazine? I have checked out their Top 100 archieves and saw differences in chart action and peak positions between Cashbox & Billboard, so the definition of Top 40 gets a bit tricky.

Shining examples, songs that failed to crack Billboard Top 40 but make it to the Cashbox Top 40:

Go West - We Close Our Eyes (#41 on Billboard; #33 on Cashbox)
Jermaine Stewart - The Word Is Out (#41 on Billboard; #37 on Cashbox)
Missing Persons - Words (#42 on Billboard; #37 on Cashbox)
Missing Persons - Destination Unknown (#42 on Billboard; #40 on Cashbox)
Scandal ft Patty Smyth - Beat Of A Heart (#41 on Billboard; #40 on Cashbox)
Scandal ft Patty Smyth - Hands Tied (#41 on Billboard; #39 on Cashbox)
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Two Tribes (#43 on Billboard; #37 on Cashbox)
Flying Lizards - Money (#50 on Billboard; #34 on Cashbox)

and some songs that made the Top 40 on Billboard but not on Cashbox.

Billboard was THE chart of the 80's.

BTW, Joel Whitburn and Record Research is releasing a Cashbox book just like their Top Pops Billboard books. I believe it will be out in February. I already have mine ordered.
