Top 100 Scary Movies of all time

I came across a list of the top 100 scary movies of all time and thought I'd post it here, since a lot of them were made in the 80s.

What was the best scary movie of the 80s?

The original Nightmare on Elm St is the scariest I have seen from that list. But the original "Dawn of the Dead" is scarier IMO.

    In this list Hellraiser

Prince of Darkness has to be the worst, not a bad movie, it's chessy but it's a very poor plot! Still, nice effort, it was way better than Escape from LA!

The Original Nightmare on Elm Street b/c it had Wes Craven's stamp on it. The others became jokes!

^^ the 3 & 4 use the mental, I prefer theses one to any other of the series, yeah the 1st is the original but that's it, the 3rd & 4th innovate the complete waste of the 2nd and I like it a lot!!!

Best of the series is definitely number three. Freddy is the MAN!

Prince of Darkness is one of my favorite scary flicks and one most people have never seen. What a great movie though.

I had to go with "Nightmare", just on the merits of the original.

I picked Halloween! I found Michael Myers to be a far more believable Psychopath Killer then Freddie Krueger.

I actually thought that the ending tied the story up nicely.

As a big 'Nightmare' fan, of course I had to go with Elm Street Even if the sequels weren't scary, the original has enough to merit the vote.

Yeah it's not bad. I caught it on cable a few months ago, having never heard of it before, and was pleasantly surprised. What made it amazing for me was the whole sequence with the bums on the street suddenly reacting to the devil's will. And Alice Cooper made it that much eerier too.

Too bad a sequel never followed, with the girl in that other dimension it left it totally open for one.

Re: Top 100 Scary Movies of all time

I really enjoyed Prince of Darkness, but then again, I'm a big John Carpenter fan. I agree with the reviewer from the web site regarding the scene at the very end of the movie, which supposedly shows a grainy video of the Devil walking through a doorway, which is a portal to the real world... Very spooky!!! The Fog ranks up there with one of my favourite 80s horror flicks as well. Some genuinely chilling moments in that one as well!!!

I completely see what you are saying 3 and 4 were good, but they didn't scare me. The first movie did. The second one was just plain garbage!
