    Cool Guitar Greats,Gurus and Gods

    Wow! Lots of great choices!
Went to private party for Nightranger Brad Gillis & Jeff Watson smoked the stage!
Stanley Jordan with his two handed playing using the callouses on his fingers as picks! What the? Nobody plays like that!Amazing!
Steve Stevens electronic sound genuis! And his production?phenom!Checkout any Idol or solo Lp!
Lots of great /80's overlooked Styx's tommy Shaw & James Young Cheap Trick's Rick Neilson Lots more Neil Giraldo yes! Reo,Triumph,Rush, Kansas, ZZtop's Billy Gibbons one of Hendrix's favorites yes you heard me right! Another Hendrix fav Terry Kath of Chicago although he early on .They toured together briefly Hendrix used to disguise himself and sit in the audience to watch him play!
How bout Neil Schon of Journey asked by Carlos Santana to play for himn at age 15! Outrageous!
Steve Vai,Steve Howe,Steve Morse(Wow! Steve must be a good name for a guitarist!)Joe Satriani,Eric Johnson all amazing virtuosos!
Speaking of Virtuosos! NO Tom Scholz of Boston? What the Genuis(literallly) who gave us the much needed 80's follow up "Third Stage" as well as the Polaroid One Step camera?(Wait was he on that one? Oh well he did invent the camera!)!Lots of studio greats Bruce Gaitsch,Dean Parks Michael Landau!
Dann Huff of Giant!Speaking of studio greats STEVE LUKATHER
Man it was a tuff decision not listing him as most underated!
I had the RARE pleasure if seeing Luke live! He is my favorite! Simply the best! And other artist obviously agree! He's played on an incredible amount of albums. You may have heard him on Randy Newman's"I Love L.A.",Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry",The Tubes"She's a Beauty" to name a VERY few!
Anyway, my choice? Other! Had to go with the "Mac" man!
    Mr. LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM!!
Pagan's right! If you haven't had the pleasure of seeing him in person (as i have)watch the Reunion video "The Dance"
Two words "Big Love" !Three more words "I'm So Afraid"!
This amazing singer/songwriter/producer is the MOST overlooked guitarist! Hands Down!

First solo "Luke" artist like Eddie Van Halen,Richard Marx,Randy Goodrum,Jan Hammer,Steve Stevens and more Fantastic!
Second solo"Lukather" I got admit I reallly didn't care that much for this one and I'm a major Luke fan! Not really sure what he was trying to do here?
Luke's new album a duet with guitar guru Larry Carlton can be found in the Jazz section of your local music store found my copy at Borders anyway It's great a live jam one take no fills overdubs edits nothing they cover everything from insrumental covers of Steely Dan(Larry played for them) to standards ,blues etc. with Larry on one speaker and Luke on the other. Must be heard to be appreciated!
TOTO's new album "Minefields" is one of there best yet! A must!

    what about Joe Satriani,

he is the teacher of wonderful guitar players like Steve Vai, and the one in Metallica (Kirk).

If you dont know him I recommed Surfing with the Alien (a grammy winner), and Cristal Planet.... or maybe Live in San Francisco (a must have concert DVD)

It seems alot of people are missing the point in this thread. Alot of the guitarists you've mentioned are not underrated. Underrated means you don't hear about them as much. People like John Sykes, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani etc. are in no way underrated. EVERYONE knows how good they are.

There are so many guitarists that shred that don't get enough play so I could go with other a hundred times. For now I will go with one from the list, I loved Vivian Cambell on the Holy Diver album and he was awesome live....

    Re: Most Underrated Guitarist

I think Craig Chaquico from Jefferson Starship was underrated. While by no means would I consider him a virtuoso, he had talent and didn't receive the same amount of attention that others in his same league did.

    Re: Steve Vai under-rated?

None of us have probably even HEARD of the most underated guitarist

A few that come to mind are:
    Dimebag Darrell
Don Felder (Joe Walsh isn't the only guitarist for The Eagles)
Robby Kreiger (ever heard his flamenco style??? OMG it's superb!)
    Prince
    Tom Morello
    Brian May
    David Gilmour
    Mellisa Etheridge

I'm certainly no expert, but when I heard Robin Crow play, I was absolutely mesmerized.

    Robin Crow gets my vote.
