We need a list of the top 100 movies of the 80s!
In the fine tradition of the AFI 100 Years, 100 Movies lists, I think that we should make a list of the Top 100 Movies Of The 80s. I feel that this decade was a wonderful time for movies. If I could get assistance from the higher-ups of this fine board, maybe we could make this a poll, and then possibly make a TV special out of the results. We need a list of potential nominees first. I could probably think of a few dozen off the top of my head (Some of these are personal favorites that I feel are representative of the decade, while others are those that have been acknowledged by many media types as being defining of the era):
"The Breakfast Club"
"16 Candles"
"Pretty In Pink"
"Working Girl"
"Beverly Hills Cop"
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
"Flashdance"
"Footloose"
"The Great Muppet Caper"
"The Muppets Take Manhattan"
"Krush Groove"
"Stop Making Sense"
"Desperately Seeking Susan"
"Lethal Weapon"
"Earth Girls Are Easy"
"The Blues Brothers"
"Spaceballs"
"Fast Times At Ridgemont High"
"The Wild Life"
"Streets Of Fire"
"Pee-Wee's Big Adventure"
"Tapeheads"
"Sesame Street Presents: Follow That Bird"
"Back To The Future"
"E.T"
The "Indiana Jones" trilogy
"Gremlins"
"The Goonies"
"Better Off Dead"
"Revenge Of The Nerds"
"UHF"
More suggestions are welcome. I would really like to work on this project, and perhaps I might have support from this board and its members.
Sincerely,
John "outofplacechild" Kilduff

Hey! I like this idea.. I don't know how much I could contribute though. Although I can add ONE: St. Elmo's Fire.. Right? I never saw it, but I've heard about it.
Sure, let's get this going. We can work it out somehow.. Who else can think of some 80s movies that defined the decade which are NOT listed up above?

Funny you should mention St. Elmo's Fire....I had just flipped on the tube one night (forget when) and there it was...I only got to see like the last hour of it...wasn't bad. It had this kick ass instrumental at the end though that I ended up making a MIDI for
Well, maybe not exactly kick ass, but I liked it
Gave me something to do on the 'ol keyboard
I'm gonna have to set up a spot for my original MIDI at my 80sXchange site at some point...

The only other one I have to offer is Xanadu.
Wait, was Dirty Dancing up there somewhere?

HOLD ON! Ok, as of outofplacechild's last post, we hit the 100 mark. I made a list of those first 100... CLICK HERE to check that out. Wow! Okay, how are we going to arrange this list? And should more be added and some be replaced? AstroGirl and TJ added some more.. Are they being left out? We should probably bring the list to 200 and weed out 101-200 to finish it off...

Hmm. The Outsiders. That was a good movie.. Now, of course Red Dawn.. That was an amazing movie! I hope that was on the list. If not, we'll have to add it.. can't forget that one. Or The Outsiders.. Eddie and the Cruisers.. Not sure if I remember that one... The list grows...

That sounds good, Sal. We can make it a 200-movie list, and then weed out from there the 100 movies that best captured the 80s. If I had known that there would be more than 100 possible nominees, I would have said something. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, Sal. Now, let's start the adding

No one mentioned Blade Runner. :crying2 It is THE Best Science Fiction movie ever, but especially of the 80's! It is so good! Harrison Ford rocks in this. If you haven't seen it you must run out and rent it! I love that movie.
